Where Is Your Trust? A Waiting Room Reflection on Jeremiah 17:5

A quiet waiting room with soft sunlight symbolizing reflection and trust in God.

Waiting rooms have a way of revealing who we truly trust.

Whether it’s a season of uncertainty, delay, unanswered prayers, or silent battles, the waiting room forces us to pause — and in that pause, our reflexes are exposed.

Where is your trust? 🤔

Is it in man… or in God?

Scripture does not soften its words:

“Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.”

Jeremiah 17:5

This verse invites sober reflection, especially in seasons of waiting.

Trust in the Waiting Room

As believers, we often declare that our trust is in God. Yet when pressure arrives, our instincts often reach elsewhere.

When trouble comes, what is usually our first response? We reach for our phones. We scroll through contacts. We look for someone who can fix the situation quickly.

God does use people — but the waiting room asks a deeper question:

Did we turn to God first, or did fear rush us into human solutions?

Fear vs Faith

One of the enemy’s greatest strategies is fear. Fear pushes us toward quick fixes. Fear convinces us that delay is dangerous.

Fear quietly removes God from the equation and encourages us to lean on our own understanding. But the waiting room is not punishment — it is preparation.

God reminds us:

“Call unto Me, and I will show you great and mighty things you do not know.”

What looks overwhelming to us is never overwhelming to Him. There is nothing impossible with God.

Peace in the waiting

When we turn to God first, something shifts internally. He gives peace — not because circumstances change immediately, but because He is present. He is the Prince of Peace.

Sometimes His instruction is not movement, but stillness:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

In that stillness:

Mountains are lowered. Valleys are lifted. Crooked paths are made straight. Confusion gives way to clarity

The waiting room becomes a place of alignment, not anxiety.

Rest Is Found in Surrender

This is the joy of trusting God in the waiting room.

Rest is not the absence of trouble — it is peace in the middle of it. True rest comes when the burden is surrendered fully to God.

A Waiting Room Challenge

Here is the invitation of this reflection:

Put God at the top of your call list. When you need help, let Him be the first call, not the last option.

Those we place on SOS can slowly become substitutes for God. When reliance shifts quietly, trust follows. One by one, release misplaced dependence and worship God alone.

As this practice grows, so will intimacy with Him. Borrowed faith becomes personal relationship. Secondhand prayers become firsthand encounters.

God is our ever-present help in times of trouble — especially in the waiting room.

Not man.

Therefore, let your trust be in God alone.

Waiting Room Reflections

The waiting room is not empty. God is still at work.

Why This Space Exists

We all find ourselves here at some point, the waiting room of life.

Not the kind with numbered tickets and quiet chairs, but the unseen space between what God has promised and what we’re currently living. The place where prayers feel unanswered, timelines stretch longer than expected, and faith is tested not by lack of belief, but by time.

Waiting Room Reflections was born out of that space.

This blog exists for seasons when you’re still trusting God, but you’re also tired. When you believe His Word, yet you’re learning how to live well while you wait. It’s for the moments when God has spoken, but the fulfillment hasn’t arrived yet. This space holds my own waiting as well.

Waiting Is Not Passive

Waiting on God is often misunderstood as doing nothing.

But biblical waiting is active, intentional, and deeply formative.

I’ve learned that waiting isn’t empty time. It’s revealing time. It exposes what I lean on, what I speak, and where my hope truly rests when nothing seems to be moving.

Sometimes God gives us a glimpse, a word, a dream, a promise, just enough to anchor us. Yet He still invites us to remain in the waiting room. Not as punishment, but as preparation.

Scripture reminds us of this through Elijah in 1 Kings 18. He boldly declared that rain was coming after a long drought. But after speaking the promise, he didn’t move on. He went into prayer, persistent, focused, and humble, sending his servant back again and again until the promise became visible.

Elijah knew something I’m still learning: A spoken promise still requires surrendered waiting.

What the Waiting Room Produces

The waiting room reveals what’s in us.
I’ve found that it:

  • teaches us how to speak life when circumstances say otherwise
  • trains us to pray instead of panic
  • invites us to trust God’s timing, not rush His process

Waiting is where faith becomes real, not because the outcome is clear, but because God is still trusted even when it isn’t.
